Oh My Giddy Aunt Rosemary Shrager Is Out Of I’m A Celeb

One of our fave celebs in the jungle this year was Rosemary Shrager and we were very sad to see her voted off last night.

She is a fab plus size chef and who is most famous for being a haute cuisine teacher on hit show “Ladette to Lady”. We think she did extremely well in the jungle and stayed true to herself and faced all the challenges with grace and dignity. On her last challenge before she left she was seen taking a bath in just her blue swimming costume to obtain codes out of a bar of soap, and we think she looked fab and was extremely brave as none of us would dare to bare our bodies on national TV.

The curvy chef spent 13 days in the jungle and said she “absolutely loved the experience”, and if anybody had told her how hard it would be “she might have thought twice about it”.

We want to know who’s going to do the cooking now Rosemary has left after all who else can make Kangaroos tails or crocodiles feet mildly edible ??

Miss BBW winner announced

On the 10th November it finally happened, the final of the Miss BBW competition and Gemma Cruickshank was crowned the winner. The 22 year old from Essesx put on a feisty performance in a teeny sailor costume to beat off the tough competition from 19 other finalists. Although this year the competition was opened up internationally most of the finalists were from the UK.

The event is now in its second year and the rules dictate you must be at least a size 18 to enter. The aim of the event is to make larger ladies more confident with their curves. All the ladies were happy to reveal their dress sizes but not necessarily how much they weighed. The competition is all about looks and NOT what the scales say.

Some of the ladies had some real life experiences of being smaller but are much happier and excepting of themselves bigger. After all we all know bigger is beautiful !!

We here at Curvety would like to congratulate Gemma on her win and are looking forward to next years competition !!

Recent Marketing Campaign Causes Discussion

A recent marketing campaign has caused discussions in the office and on the internet. A retailer has asked people what they want to see from an advert and this is the response to the models ‘Too perfect, with too few wobbly bits.’ This has then lead to an outcry from medical professionals.
A doctor sparked controversy by claiming that a couple of curvy models advertising Shapewear Control Underwear are too FAT to represent real women and that 1 of the models is actually obese. In the doctors opinion is that “it is utterly wrong that obesity has taken its place alongside ageing and differing skin colours,” we completely disagree here.  The message is loud and clear: forget Twiggy and Myleene Klass, the former faces of all things fashionable, and instead embrace the woman you truly are, complete with your voluptuous curves and pudgy love handles.
The subliminal message shrieks that they are glamorous, glorious and – most importantly of all – real women who aren’t afraid to flaunt their flabby bits.
Who can but applaud, we are encouraged to believe, the recent spate of advertisements from the likes of M&S and Dove cosmetics in which stick-thin, taut and toned models have been rejected in favour of what are euphemistically known as ‘big’ girls?

So girls embrace your curves and flaunt your flabby bits and be proud because we are all beautiful no matter what shape and size we are.

Toronto’s Plus Size Fashion Show In Memory of Allison Shapiro Amar

This week saw Toronto host its fashion show but on Friday night was the first plus size runway show. Allistyle was the first plus size clothing line ever to be shown in the limelight of the fashion houses. Allistyle tugged on the heartstrings of the fashionistas due to the touching story behind its creation.

The labels creative head and founder is Pam Shainhouse. She developed the plus size line last year as a tribute to her daughter Alli , who passed away of Hodgkin Lymphoma in 2006 at age of just 26. Alli was a normal 26 year old who loved fashion, but cancer treatments caused dramatic weight gain, so her clothing options became limited. This is when it was decided the clothing line should be plus size.

Despite this some people in the fashion world mocked the show all the way through, including 1 gentleman who laughed and hid his face from the gaze of the camera. While others exchanged looks and cackled audibly. Apparently some were even heard to be saying that the women walked poorly because they were bigger women in high heels.

We can’t believe that people still think this kind of negativity is ok. All women are beautiful no matter what your size and believe your curves should be embraced. This lady has been inspirational and has managed to do what others have been trying to do for years and get plus size fashion in the limelight and on the catwalk.

Adeles Fabulous Baby News

ADELE has given birth to a baby boy. The curvy singer and her partner Simon Konecki welcomed their first child on Friday night.

They are both said to be "ecstatic" at the arrival of their son, whose name is yet to be revealed. We here in the Curvety office look forward to finding out what it is.

Adele is set to miss the world premiere of James Bond film, Skyfall in London tonight as she doesn’t want to be away from her baby and who can blame her! Adele has recorded the theme song which was released last Friday and is tipped to be the first ever Bond track to take the number one spot in the official chart.

Adele looks amazing in this dress below and it’s similar to our Santra dress, perfect if you are going out for a Christmas party.

Plus Size Beauty Pageants Hit the UK

Beauty pageants are a huge thing in America, but are slowly on the increase in the UK.  A new series of plus size beauty pageants has begun, bringing exciting times for wanna be beauty queens called Miss Curvy UK.

Majestic Models and Casting Agency have launched the competition and are looking for ladies size 10 and above and aged between 18 and 55. The series of pageants will hold regional competitions across the UK before the big finale in London where Miss Curvy UK will be crowned. The first heat will be held in Merseyside followed by Greater Manchester, West Midlands, and London. More heats will be added to the schedule to be held this year and into next year.

Miss Curvy UK wants to promote a healthy body attitude and banish the thin ideal. Winners can expect to receive a modelling contract, a cash gift and many other fab prizes too. The event also hopes to raise lots of money for the charity Cash For Kids.

There have been other plus size beauty pageants in the UK which have all had great success. Some people may say that Miss Curvy UK is not a competition for the fuller figured woman as contestants can be a size 10, however we think that size 10’s competing alongside larger women is a positive move as it will demonstrate diversity and that all healthy sizes are acceptable.

Lovely in Lace

Last Tuesday saw the swanky birthday celebration of billionaire Richard Caring’s son Ben. It was a star studded dinner party held at Annabel’s private members club.

Considering Nicole Scherzinger was suffering from jet lag after landing earlier that afternoon from Los Angeles we think she looked stunning in this gorgeous lace dress. She finished off the look by tying her hair in a simple braid down her back and a pair of peep toe heels.

With the party season getting ever nearer, we think that you could get the look too with the boudoir lace dress from curvety, which already has a black lining unlike the one Nicole wore or we think the Nude lining is just as nice.

What do you think ?

Plus Size Zumba

Let’s face it we’re all guilty of making plans to get fit and very few of us actually get round to doing it, i’m one of the guilty party’s. Getting started can be very difficult, I find going to the gym quite daunting and running is hard work. Swimming is a good way to keep fit, if you’re comfortable getting into a swimming costume in your local baths and you can swim of course. No matter which course of exercise we choose they all require motivation to go and if you are feeling tired or down it’s very easy to put it off. So thank goodness for Zumba !!
The idea of Zumba is that it is a fun way to get fit and even lose weight if that’s what you choose you would like to do. It is a very good cardio and fitness workout that targets the core and tones and sculpts the body. Zumba has been slowly growing since the 90’s and now is extremely popular worldwide. It now includes several different types of Zumba including original Zumba, Zumba Gold and Aqua Zumba. They have now introduced Zumba Curves, it is still based around all the other types, dance moves to Latin music but is a 30 min routine designed to strengthen muscles and blast fat. It also includes a circuit with resistance machines and a nutritional programme.
More importantly Zumba is all about social interaction and fun whilst getting fit and healthy at the same time. If you have been put off before because of gym stereotypes then the zumba curves class may be the perfect place to make you feel comfortable while shaking your booty. Curvety have just launched a new line of plus size fitness clothing so why not look the part too. We particularly like this sports top, Kala with clever sleeves that although it is a vest top for when you get hot dancing to all that Latin music they have a floaty top sleeve to cover up the top of the arm which none of us ladies like.
Have you tried Zumba ? Let us know what you think of it.

The Curvy Stars of Strictly 2012

We here at the Curvety office absolutely love the glitz and glamour of Strictly Come Dancing to bring some sparkle to the cold and dreary evenings.

This year they have some fabulous curvy celebs to wow us all on the dance floor including the lovely Fern Britton and the gorgeous Lisa Riley. Fern has appeared on the show before for a Christmas special and hopes to do as well as previous tv presenters. She has been paired up with Artem Chigvintsev. Lisa is most famously known for her role ion Emmerdale but has more recently appeared on stage in Calendar Girls. She was learning ballet from the tender age of 4 and with her dance partner Robin Windsor is hoping to go all the way. She told Strictly that she is a big girl and there are a lot of big girls out there. She said “I want to do it for all the chubbies out there. Chubbies can move.”

No matter what your favourite style of ballroom dancing is you can get the look, if Tango is you favourite then we think the Rebecca Gown is perfect to show a bit of leg for this sultry dance, or perhaps you prefer the more lively dances like the Quickstep you could get the look with the fabulous Luna dress in Raspberry a very up and coming colour for this season.

All you need is a fabulous pair of heels and the dance floor is all yours. In the famous words of Sir Brucey “Keep Dancing!”

Heather Trott entered the BB House, Cheryl Fergison Left

Actress Cheryl Fergison was the second housemate to be evicted from the Celebrity Big Brother house on Friday night, and in the Curvety office we're all shocked!

I think you can all agree with me when I say that Cheryl livened up the Big Brother house this year.  She is funny and feisty and a whole lot more genuine than most of the remaining housemates which makes it a real shame that she left so early. The loud cheers at her departure show that she has now got quite a following of new fans who appreciate the "real" Cheryl.

Cheryl has said she is delighted she took part in Celebrity Big Brother because fans now use her real name rather than that of her former Eastenders character.

Talking to the Daily Star she said "People shout 'Cheryl' at me now, which is really nice. If people cannot see beyond the fact that I was Heather, then that's their problem. Knowing I can stretch my wings and do other projects helped me get over it. It's great I can never go back, because it means I won't be waiting for a knock at the door asking me to return."

Cheryl chose the Gabrielle Gown available from Curvety to leave the Big Brother house, and we thought she looked amazing.

Adele Double Celebration

We here in the curvety office cannot believe how quickly time has gone when Adeles boyfriend revealed that the baby is “coming so soon.”
Simon Kinecki, who has been dating Adele, our favourite curvy singer, since late last year has said that Adele could give birth as early as the beginning of September.
“The baby is coming so soon, I’m very excited. Adele is doing well and we can’t wait.”
Simon is a charity worker and is reportedly looking for the perfect ring to propose to her with. We can’t wait for the double celebration and wish them all the best of luck.
Also Adele has said she has started work on her much awaited third album. However its release date will be delayed while she focuses on motherhood.

Khloe Kardashian Dresses her Curves in Style

We love the fact that Khloe Kardashian, who is known for her curvy figure, was recently seen out enjoying a spot of retail therapy wearing a horizontally striped Maxi Dress. She has definitely broken the unwritten rule that curvy girls should not wear stripes.
Khloe was bullied from the age of 9 for a variety of things. She was called the ugly Kardashian and was taunted about having a lighter shade of skin and different shaped nose to her sisters. She has made a conscious decision not to go down the plastic surgery route (which seems to be far common practice these days) to have her nose altered as she know she is a “decent and nice person”.  She even goes as far as to say she thinks she’s hot and we have to say we totally agree.
We think curvy girls look fab in Maxi Dresses either for summer day wear or glam them up for a night out with a pair of heels.  Our personal favourite is the Valencia Maxi Dress which can be worn for any occasion.

Karl Lagerfeld Slates Pippa Middleton

We see that Karl Lagerfeld has once again sparked controversy with remarks towards Pippa Middleton. He was quoted as saying “she should only show her back” with reference of course to the photos that were beamed across the world when she was a bridesmaid at her sisters wedding to Prince William.
This isn’t the first time he has sparked controversy when he referred to Adele, one of our favourite singers and a role model for curvy women everywhere,  as being a little too fat but with a beautiful face and a divine voice.  We believe comments like this just make it harder to remove  weight discrimination from the fashion industry and in showbiz in general. There is far too much pressure around these days for everyone to look a certain way regardless of talent.
We here in the Curvety office believe he is saying these things as a bit of a publicity stunt, after all you know what they say “ there is no such thing as bad publicity”. Maybe he should think a little more carefully in future about the effect his comments may have on young people.
