Adele Double Celebration

We here in the curvety office cannot believe how quickly time has gone when Adeles boyfriend revealed that the baby is “coming so soon.”

Simon Kinecki, who has been dating Adele, our favourite curvy singer, since late last year has said that Adele could give birth as early as the beginning of September.

“The baby is coming so soon, I’m very excited. Adele is doing well and we can’t wait.”

Simon is a charity worker and is reportedly looking for the perfect ring to propose to her with. We can’t wait for the double celebration and wish them all the best of luck.

Also Adele has said she has started work on her much awaited third album. However its release date will be delayed while she focuses on motherhood.

Too Curvy for Fashion?

OK, so there are many many positive stories in the press at the moment which show the attitude to curves in the fashion world is changing...

Prada, the Italian label credited with inventing the cult of the skinny girl, has started to use curvier, womanly Victoria's Secret lingerie models on its catwalk.  Marc Jacobs has vowed to make his clothes in bigger sizes, if only for a season or two.

But then the reality of the fashion world rears its ugle head!

35-year-old actress Christina Hendricks - the curvaceous star of hit U.S. TV series Mad Men who was nominated for best supporting actress, has struggled to find a designer who would dress her for the red carpet at the Emmys.

'Not one designer will loan me a dress,' she told a Scottish newspaper. 'They only lend out a size zero or a size 2. So I'm still struggling for someone to give me a darn dress!'

Lawren Sample has been Hendricks' stylist for three years and has a constant battle to dress her stunning curvaceous figure.  'Most of the time Christina can't fit into samples. Sometimes she can get into it if it has a little stretch, but not often,' says Lawren.

'She's a woman, she's got a woman's body. But most actors these days, there's nothing to them - they're a clothes hanger'

Lawren admits that although her curvaceous 38DD-26-34 figure is the envy of millions of women, designers would prefer to steer clear.

Two of our most beautiful British actresses - Suranne Jones, who played Karen McDonald in Coronation Street, and Sarah Paris, who most recently appeared on screen in Mistresses, have also said that because they do not conform to the "standard size" they find it impossible to be dressed by any of the big designers.

'No one will lend clothes to me,' says Jones. 'Even when I try to buy a designer dress, it's hard to find anything that works in my size, which is a 12.'

Why are these beautiful women finding it so difficult to be dressed on the red carpet?  Jasper Conran, one of our most curve friendly designers, says: 'The truth of the matter is that models tend to be tall, slim and young, the samples are fitted to the models, so that dictates the size they are'.

New York designer Zac Posen rose to the challenge and personally created a dress for Christina to wear at the Emmys. What a show stopper it was. He wanted to accentuate her shape, rather than hide it. The lilac, cleavage-bearing, hourglass dress in chiffon with hand stitched feathers was specially made for her, with a structured, boned bodice.

The dress was stunning and, for me, she stole the show with her curvy figure showcased at its best. A woman who looks like a woman, most certainly not like a coat hanger.

Is 2009 set to see the end of this ridiculous size 0 trend?

Well, we can all hope that this unrealistic view of women is set to stop and we can all finally relax and feel sexy no matter what size we are. Many celebrities have been relaxing on their diets, Victoria Beckham and Cheryl Cole have been seen sporting more curvaceous figures than once seen before, as has Eva longoria who has been asked to gain weight for her desperate housewives role, she has said ‘we just ate so much we went crazy over the summer’.

When did it become sexy to have no stomach, no hips, no thighs, no boobs and nothing to lust after? It seems even men have been sucked into this trend but if you look at surveys, when given the choice men have opted for someone more like Charlotte Church than size 0 models or even size 8 girls. It seems that although it may seem men want this in reality men want a real women, someone sexy, confident and with lots to offer.

Celebrities such as Charlotte Church who is a self proclaimed curvy girl is becoming more of the norm in Hollywood than ever before, hopefully this is soon to set a trend for our younger celebrities and public because this view of women’s bodies has become more harmful than anything. Actress Nikki blonsky starred as the lead character in the new film musical hairspray and she being a size 18-22 played an amazing role, as a beautiful young girl in love. It was rare to see a larger lady on screen but she has set a trend amongst Hollywood that it is possible for a young girl to play the starring role of a sexy woman.

Tyra banks has been quoted saying ‘you call this fat!’ when she recently did a magazine article stating her curvy womanly figure was not fat as she has put on weight in the past few months, but still looks as gorgeous as ever. X factor also has the beautiful young Laura who is sporting a curvy figure which looks amazing, hopefully she can maintain this look and not fall for the typical Hollywood route if all goes well. I am hoping with all of these celebs taking a stand - curvy, sexy, gorgeous women - will once again be the top stars.

Celebrity Plus Size Designers

The last couple of years has seen an increase in the number of celebrity designers - either going solo or designing for well known high street stores. Kate Moss, Lily Allen, Jodie Kidd to name a few - but where are the plus size celebrity designers?

Beth Ditto of Gossip has expressed her interest in working with Topshop. This hasn't materialised which is a shame as I think Beth would make a great contribution to the plus size fashion industry.

Another curvy celeb with great style is Adele, who I would love to see share her style with us.

First Plus Size Miss England Entrant

Beautiful & voluptuous Chloe Marshall has set her sights on challenging the fashion industry stereotype by becoming the first ever size 16 Miss England entrant.

National Television Awards

This week I took great delight in indulging my love of trashy TV by watching the National Television Awards. To ease the rest of the household I boldy announced my requirement to watch it to report on the fashion, as everyone knows, those TV stars love an excuse to dress up and party!!

This year didn't disappoint, and the stars were out in some of the best (and worst) evening dresses to have been seen so far this season. Here's a round up of my favourites. Firstly I have to pay homage to Fern Britton who looked absolutely amazing in a simple black halter dress with one of my favourite bolero style shrugs as a cover. Fern is a beautiful woman and she really seemed to glow. Another favourite for me was Kelly Brook in a grecian style floor length gown which accentuated her beautifully curvy figure perfectly.

The night brought a mix of timeless classics and bold new styles. One colour which seemed to be a firm favourite with our TV celebs was electric blue, a bold colour which if used correctly can really make you stand out from the crowd for the right reasons, as demonstrated by Doctor Who's award winning actress Freema Agyeman, as well as woman of the moment, Corrie's Tina O'Brien (pictured). America Ferrera on Curves

America Ferrera, the 23 year old star of 'Ugly Betty' has recently spoken out for the curvy woman about her views on curves, eating disorders and size sero. In the real world America would be classed as a woman of normal proportions - but in LA and the world of celebrity that she resides she is classed as curvy. Does living in such a looks obsessed bubble have an effect on how America feels about herself?'

She says; 'There's just way too much attention placed on the way we look. And I think it's hilarious when people call Jessica Alba and Eva Longoria curvy. Come on - they're not curvy. I'm curvy!'

Luckily for America she has landed a job that celebrates her individuality so she is not under the same pressure as other actresses to maintain an unnaturally slim figure. 'I've been really lucky. The role has prepared me to be exactly who I am and not to change. And what is normal now? Is it normal to be size zero? Starving yourself is not beautiful.'
