Banned from Miss World for Putting on Weight!

Although the world is crying out for curves to be accepted, it seems that beauty is still skinny deep in the eyes of beauty pageants.

Cynthia de la Vega, 19, came second at the Nuestra Belleza Mundo Mexico beauty pageant last September - the country’s equivalent of Miss England. The result meant she would go on to represent Mexico at the 2011 Miss World competition in November, being held in the UK.

Cynthia claims that she has been stripped of the opportunity due to gaining a mere 6lb!

Speaking at a press conference, De la Vega said organisers withdrew her from the international pageant because she failed to lose the weight she had gained.

"I was very sad and very deceived. I cried and cried and cried," she said. "They demanded that I lose a few kilos, but they never provided a nutritionist or any other assistance to ensure the weight loss."
National director for the pageant, Lupita Jones, said in a statement that De la Vega was axed because of her “lack of dedication and discipline." He also said she "did not comply with the recommendations and goals agreed upon for her preparation".
This story made me so angry!

Cynthia is tiny before AND after gaining weight - this organisation are sending out the message that to be beautiful you have to be unnaturally slim, and if you arent you are lazy!

What message does this send to young women?

Please please, when are the media, and other organisations such as these going to accept that in the real world women come in many variations of beautiful? Gorgeous curves to super slim, whatever your natural body shape, it should be embraced.
